THE ORIGIN LA HUELLA DE ESPAÑA

La Huella de España was conceived and created by Adriana Vega Izaguirre in 2015 with the vision of preserving, promoting and celebrating the richness of Spanish language, culture and artistic heritage through education.

The inaugural edition became one of the first cultural initiatives of its kind in the United States, bringing together several academies in a multidisciplinary celebration that paid tribute to renowned flamenco artist Estrella Morena. The event also recognized painters, musicians and other artists whose remarkable contributions to Spanish culture deserved greater visibility and appreciation.

Building on its success, the second edition was held in 2016 as a tribute to the legendary Spanish artist Peret. Hosted at the Mylander Center, the event welcomed Cándido Creis Estrada, then Consul General of Spain in Miami, whose presence reinforced the cultural and educational significance of the initiative.

These first two editions inspired a broader vision. Rather than remaining an annual cultural celebration, La Huella de España evolved into a comprehensive educational model designed to be implemented directly within schools. The program was carefully adapted to support Spanish language classrooms, integrating literature, history, geography, visual arts, music, theater and cultural heritage into the academic curriculum throughout the school year.

Today, La Huella de España is a year-long educational initiative that empowers Spanish language teachers with interdisciplinary resources and meaningful classroom experiences. Students engage in literary studies, historical research, artistic projects, cultural presentations and collaborative activities that culminate each year around April 23, celebrating Spanish Language Day, World Book Day and Cervantes Week.

Developed with the support of the Education Office of the Consulate General of Spain, the program continues to inspire students, strengthen academic achievement, increase family engagement and promote a lifelong appreciation for the Spanish language and Hispanic heritage.

What began as a tribute to Spanish artists has evolved into an educational legacy that continues to inspire new generations through language, culture and academic excellence.

Curriculum Integration

A comprehensive educational model that integrates Spanish language, literature, history, geography, visual arts, music, theater and cultural heritage into classroom instruction, enriching the curriculum while promoting academic excellence, student engagement, critical thinking, creativity, communication skills, cultural identity, interdisciplinary learning and meaningful family participation.

Cultural & Academy Impact

Creating meaningful learning experiences that strengthen academic achievement, Spanish language proficiency, reading comprehension, creativity, critical thinking and cultural awareness. By exploring literature, history and the arts, students become active learners who read, research, ask questions and make meaningful connections across the curriculum. The program also identifies and nurtures exceptional talents in visual arts, music, singing and dance, helping schools develop future leaders and enrich advanced academic, fine arts and enrichment programs.

Institutional & International support

Developed with the support of the Education Office of the Consulate General of Spain and featured by NBC6 and Telemundo 51. Somerset Academy Dade became the first school in the United States to implement La Huella de España as a comprehensive educational model within Spanish language classrooms, establishing the pilot program that now serves as the foundation for future expansion to schools across the nation.
